The first city was Enoch

16 So Cain went out from the LORD's presence and lived in the land of Nod, [f] east of Eden.
17 Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch.
Genesis 4:16-17 (NIV)

It's interesting to see how we are affected today from Cain's actions. McGee's thoughts are that Cain never repented of his sin and continued to live a life away from God ("went out from the Lord's presence"). In today's world there are so many people who are given opportunities to live a life of forgiveness yet choose not to. They live apart from God.

Cain had a son named Enoch and then built a city and named it after his son. McGee says this is probably when the first city was established. Think about our major cities today. They tend to have more problems with crime, hatred, and immorality than most rural places do. I'm not saying the rural areas are perfect, but they tend to be less clouded with the things of this world. Yet, our society is fixated in moving to the city because it is bigger and better. Our human bodies are easily attracted to the sinful desires of this world.

Are there immoral people living in rural areas? There sure are. Everyone is born with a sinful nature. We have to realize that we need to be saved from that life. The only way we can be saved is through the sacrifice that Christ poured out on that cross. There are people living a life of forgiveness in both rural areas and the cities.
